Drake appears to cut Michael Jackson collaboration from his tour set.
While several artists across all genre of music are coming out in support of Michael Jackson, there is a tremendous amount who’ve either remained silent or playing it cautiously. Last week we saw T.I. on the record saying that the powers that be are trying to destroy Jackson’s legacy and tarnish the culture. Urban Islandz also reported that dancehall icons Vybz Kartel and Bounty Killer came out in strong support of Michael Jackson while blasting his critics.
Drake is the latest artist to be cast into the web of “Jacksongate” as the controversy swirled out of control in large part because of Oprah Winfrey interviewing the late pop star’s accusers in addition to the HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland.” Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen radio stations around the world dropping the axe on Michael Jackson’s music. We’ve also seen animated franchise The Simpson cutting the iconic “Stark Raving Dad” episode which features Michael Jackson.
So is Drake the latest artist to censor Michael Jackson amidst the controversy? We’ll break it all down for you why that is not necessarily the case. On his new album Scorpion, Drake dropped off a surprising collaboration with Michael Jackson titled “Don’t Matter To Me.”
Sunday night was the opening show on Drake’s “Assassination Vacation Tour” in Manchester which saw him and his headliners, Tory Lanez and Tiffany Calver. Complex pointed out that the single “Don’t Matter to Me” is not on the lineup and some concertgoers are raising questions as to why Drizzy didn’t perform the song.
“It looks like Drake is cutting his Michael Jackson collab from the tour cuz I didn’t see him performed it last night in Manchester, come on Drizzy are you joining the bandwagon too to censor MJ?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
In all fairness to Drake, the song probably just couldn’t make the cut for his new tour lineup and may not have anything to do with the recent Michael Jackson controversy. But for context, he did perform the song on his “Aubrey & The Three Amigos Tour” last year at least twenty-five times on that North American trek.
One fan pointed out that he added the song “Peak” to the lineup for the first time, which means “Peak” could be the replacer for “Don’t Matter To Me.”
